Australian photographer, author, and director Robyn Lea began her career in 1990 in Milan as a 19-year-old photographers’ assistant and has worked internationally for over three decades. Her work has been published in Vogue (USA, France and Spain),The New York Times, Marie Claire (Italy), Architectural Digest (USA and Germany), T Magazine, and Elle Décor UK, among others.
Robyn’s images have also been featured in exhibitions around the world including at the prestigious Vittoriano Museum in Rome, the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, the Australian Consulate in New York and in a solo show for the Vernissage of the 2015 World Expo in Milan on invitation of the American Ambassador to Italy. In 2015 Robyn launched DINNER WITH JACKSON POLLOCK: Recipes, Art & Nature (Assouline, 2015) at the Guggenheim in Venice, co-hosted with Francesca Pollock. The book became a best-seller and Robyn subsequently wrote and photographed DINNER WITH GEORGIA O’KEEFFE: Recipes, Art & Landscape (Assouline, 2017).
Since the overwhelming success of her critically acclaimed early titles, Robyn created BOHEMIAN LIVING: Creative Homes Around the World (Thames & Hudson, 2018) and LISA PERRY STYLE: Fashion, Homes, Design (Assouline, 2019), with a foreword Robyn was commissioned to ghost write for Hillary Clinton. This title includes quotes from Robyn’s interviews with artist Jeff Koons; European editor-at-large, Vogue, USA Hamish Bowles; philanthropist, Dorothy Lichtenstein and designer Jonathan Adler, among others.
Robyn’s prolific career also includes photographing the following coffee-table books: FRENCH TIES (Penguin, 2012); FRENCH HOUSE CHIC (Thames & Hudson, 2017); VENETIAN CHIC (Assouline, 2017); CHÂTEAUX LIFE: Cuisine & Style in the French Countryside (Assouline, 2018); MIRKA & GEORGES: A Culinary Affair (Melbourne University Press, 2018); and HONG KONG: Heritage, Art & Dreams (Assouline, 2018). Her images are also included in Aerin Lauder’s book PALM BEACH (Assouline, 2020) and HAMPTONS PRIVATE (Assouline, 2021). In testament to her global standing, Robyn was chosen from thousands of photographers around the world as the official photographer to shoot the coffee table book for the Ritz Paris, (Assouline, 2018). The Ritz Paris has not released a coffee table book since 1978.
Robyn’s latest book A ROOM OF HER OWN: Inside the Homes & Lives of Creative Women was released in March this year. Within two months of launching overseas, the book reached the Amazon UK and US best seller lists across five categories including Interior Design; Artist and Architect Biographies; and Fashion and Style.
Having lived in Milan for a total of three years, Zimbabwe for one, and New York for five, Robyn relocated back to Melbourne with her family in 2016. She lives in Melbourne with her husband Tim Hunt, her two children Issy and Freddie and their beaglier puppy, Maggie.
